The Potionmasters – Alchemy of the Unseen

A Severus Snape Fanfiction About Love, Trauma, Survival, and the Courage to Be Seen

The Potionmasters – Alchemy of the Unseen is a dark, emotional Harry Potter fanfiction centered around Severus Snape and an original character, Amie Étoile — a young Swiss potions researcher whose work brings her into Snape’s world during the events of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Set within the canon timeline of the Wizarding War, this story explores familiar events from a more intimate and shadowed perspective: the burden of secrecy, the cost of loyalty, the cruelty of war, and the quiet strength it takes to survive when the world has already decided who you are.

At its heart, this is a story about two wounded people who recognize something in each other that no one else has seen. Amie does not try to redeem Severus by changing him. Instead, she sees him — his intelligence, his grief, his trauma, his discipline, his tenderness hidden beneath years of armor — and chooses to stand beside him as an equal.

The story blends slow-burn romance, psychological depth, potions research, wartime espionage, and themes of trauma and healing. It remains close to canon while opening hidden spaces within it: moments behind closed doors, choices made in silence, and emotional truths that the original story could only imply.

This project is deeply personal to me. Through Amie Étoile, I explore themes of childhood trauma, bullying, emotional neglect, self-worth, survival, and the longing to be loved without having to become someone else first.

It is a dark story — but not a hopeless one.

Because even in a world shaped by fear, cruelty, and impossible choices, there can still be love. There can still be tenderness. There can still be a future.

The Inspiration Behind The Potionmasters – Alchemy of the Unseen

I have been a Severus Snape fangirl ever since I first saw Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen in theaters. I was 16 years old, and the moment Alan Rickman appeared on screen as Snape, I was immediately captivated by this dark, complex, and intriguing character. Even before watching the film, I had devoured Harry Potter books 1–4, completely enchanted by the world of magic and wizardry. When The Order of the Phoenix was released, I was too impatient to wait for the German translation—so I read it entirely in English, making it the first English book I ever completed.

Back then, I couldn’t have known how much depth and personal tragedy Severus Snape’s character would endure. Even after Half-Blood Prince, I refused to believe that Snape was truly evil.

I actually started writing my first fanfiction back then, crafting a slow-burn romance between Snape and an original character. Sadly, those early writings are lost to time, but the love for storytelling—and for Snape—never left me.

In autumn 2024, I started playing Hogwarts Legacy, and it rekindled my passion for the Wizarding World. Walking through Hogwarts, exploring Hogsmeade, flying over the lake on a broomstick—it was pure bliss! As a proud Ravenclaw nerd, I loved the chance to immerse myself in the common room and feel like a student once more.

While playing, a new story formed in my mind. In October 2024, I traveled to Kyoto with my oldest son (who was 10 at the time). I had lived there for a year during my Japanology studies, so returning felt like a homecoming. On our last day in Japan, we visited the Harry Potter Studio Tour in Tokyo, which was a magical experience for a longtime fan like me.

Back in Switzerland, I started experimenting with ChatGPT, using it to generate raw drafts based on my scenes, dialogue, and characters. But of course, the final version is heavily edited, expanded, and shaped into the exact story I envisioned. As a creative writing graduate, I poured my heart and skill into making this novel not just a fanfiction, but a deeply personal literary piece.

Why This Story Matters to Me

At its core, The Potionmasters – Alchemy of the Unseen is deeply personal. Through the protagonist Amie Étoile, I navigate themes of childhood trauma, emotional neglect and bullying—experiences that shaped me, just as they shaped Severus Snape. That’s likely why I’ve always felt drawn to his character.

This story delves into dark themes such as: Bullying✔ Self-harm✔ Suicide & Suicidal Thoughts✔ PTSD✔ The Cruciatus Curse & Torture✔

But beyond the darkness, there is hope, strength, and love.

What You Can Expect from the Story

A romance where Snape is truly seen. Amie Étoile will stand by his side—not as a pawn, but as an equal who understands him beyond the mask and armor he wears. She will fight alongside him, not just for love, but for the greater good.

A story that stays true to canon. Some chapters will align perfectly with Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows, showing familiar events from a different perspective.

A fully completed novel. The Potionmaster – Alchemy of the Unseen spans around 170,000 words, already finished and ready for release.

Where to Read: It will be published on Archive of Our Own and FanFiction.net and. I also release a German translation on Archive of our Own and on Fanfiktion.de
